Appointment costs

Usually referred to as an EPC (or TCA), these "'care plans'' are basically referrals that your GP can give you to see a Dietitian, if you are eligible. The idea is that they help you to manage chronic conditions such as diabetes, obesity etc.

The number of consults you can claim a rebate on, depends on the care plan. But usually, a maximum of 5 per calendar year.

Those with an eligible care plan will receive a Medicare rebate of $60, after the appointment is complete.

NOTE: Care plans can't be backdated, so if you plan to get one, attempt to do so BEFORE your appointment. 

Most private health funds provide rebates for Dietitian services. The rebate amount and claim limits will vary depending on your health fund, so contact your health fund to check your entitlements. 

Even if you have an eligible health fund, you are still required to pay the upfront cost of $115 to secure your booking. However, you will receive an itemised receipt after the consult, to make your manual rebate claim. 

NOTE: You are not eligible to claim a rebate from both Medicare and a private health fund. Only one, or the other.
